Bluegrass fans have a reason to celebrate as Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out unveil a previously unreleased gem from their archives—“New Cut Road,” written by legendary songwriter Guy Clark. The track, recorded several years ago but never made public until now, is officially available today on all major streaming platforms. With Moore on vocals and guitar, Wayne Benson on mandolin, Keith McKinnon on banjo, Kevin McKinnon on bass, and Nathan Aldridge on fiddle, the newly released cut brings fresh life to a timeless tune.

“I fell in love with this song a long time ago after hearing the version by Bobby Bare,” says Moore. “The biggest reason was the fiddle playing on that cut. The fiddle was cross-tuned and made me want to dance… and I can’t dance! I didn’t find out until years later that it was Ricky Skaggs who played fiddle on Bobby’s version and it all made sense. Ricky is one of my favorite fiddle players and his playing motivated me to see what we could do with this song and, although we have a little bit different arrangement, I think it turned out great!”

The release of “New Cut Road” comes at a time of new energy for Russell Moore, who is currently on tour as the newest member of Alison Krauss & Union Station.
