Curb Records Artist Pitney Meyer Releases First Single from Forthcoming Album

World Premiere of “Old Friend” Airs September 12th on Real Roots Radio with Daniel Mullins

Bluegrass music’s newest collaboration, Pitney Meyer, made their radio debut in July with “That Sounds Lonesome,” a (J.D.) Crowe-esque up-tempo song written by Mo Pitney and John Meyer. Now, Curb Records announces the release of the duo’s first single from their forthcoming album. “Old Friend” will be available everywhere September 13th.

Alongside Serve Productions, Pitney Meyer built a completely analog recording studio in the heart of an 1837 hand-hewn log cabin, formerly owned by Johnny Cash, now the Storytellers Hideaway Farm in Bon Aqua, Tennessee. “It’s interesting, I think, learning about this property,” says John. “What this was for Johnny Cash, was sort of his place to get away from it all. So in a way, we’re kind of here for the same reason. We want to make music but we want it to be defined by the music.”

Referred to as the “Bon Aqua Sessions,” a collection of songs were recorded live-to-tape that include the duo’s first foray into radio, “That Sounds Lonesome,” a full 11-song album, Cherokee Pioneer, and a bonus post-album track. Released mid-July, “That Sounds Lonesome” continues to be a favorite with radio programmers and fans, and is currently #2on BanjoRadio’s Top 20 Songs and reached #15 on the Bluegrass Today Top 20 Songscharts.

Eager to continue the momentum, Curb Records and Pitney Meyer are set to deliver “Old Friend” to radio and consumers this week. Written by Mo Pitney, John Meyer, and Wyatt McCubbin, “Old Friend” beautifully captures the kind of friendship that lives on forever in memories, serving up nostalgia and melancholy side by side with Pitney’s sentimental southern drawl and Meyer’s tender banjo picking. With this musical collaboration that was born out of deep friendship, it’s fitting that “Old Friend” was the first song the duo recorded for the album. “I think the only way I could share with people how much John’s friendship means to me, is to make this record,” says Mo. “I really believe that there’s people that live and die that have never had a friend. I just really feel honored to say that I have a friend.”

Pitney Meyer will celebrate the release of “Old Friend” with its World Premiere on Real Roots Radio with Daniel Mullins on Thursday, September 12th at 11am ET. Real Roots Radio can be heard around the world via realrootsradio.com or through their free app for iOS and Android.

“Old Friend” will be available everywhere Friday, September 13th and can be presaved here. For more on Pitney Meyer, follow the band on social media channels @pitneymeyer or visit pitneymeyer.com.
